I took the Wilton Basic Cake Decorating class and Flower’s and Cake Design classes at Micheals and had lots of fun learning new techniques and basic cake decorating skills.
The first day of class was orientation and we learned about the supplies in the Decorating Basic Student Kit. The second day of class I had to bring cookies and learned basic techniques on how to properly use decorating bags, couplers, and different tip sizes.
The third class was making butter cream flowers and border techniques. I had to bake the cupcakes at home and bring them to class to decorate.
For the last and final class I had to bring in an already baked cake and learned about writing, icing the cake, and making a rose. I used all the techniques I learned in the previous classes to decorated my cake.
For the Flowers and Cake Design Kit class I learned different techniques using gum paste and fondant to create beautiful flowers. I love working with gum paste and fondant because the flowers harden and keep their shape. I would like to continue and take more Wilton classes. I also learned a simple basket weaving technique to decorate the side of the cake.
I saved all my flowers from the previous classes and added them to my cake. I took my cake to work and my co-workers gave me so many sweet compliments.
